GERSTER LOOKS FORWARD TO RETURN TO WINCHESTER
Fishers, IN resident, Brian Gerster, is eagerly awaiting the Xtreme Speed Challenge May 19 at Winchester Speedway. It will be the third race of the year on the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series (MSRXSS) schedule.
Gerster loves Winchester and scored one of his biggest wins of his career at the high-banked half mile in 1995. Gerster won a USAC National Midget Series event on ESPN." I absolutely love the place" states Gerster."I've won in a midget there before and held the non-wing sprint car track record for a while. I've been close to winning a Must See race there a couple of times. I really wanna get a Must See win there".
Maybe its no coincidence Gerster loves Winchester so much. He became the fastest man in Bristol Motor Speedway history when he tuned a lap that averaged 150.580 MPH on October 1, 2011 during a MSRXSS event. He also currently holds the track record at Salem Speedway. Both tracks are similar to Winchester as far as speed and banking.
Gerster has won five times in MSRXSS competition the last two years despite running a limited schedule. Last year saw Gerster score MSRXSS wins at Clio, MI, and Indianapolis, IN.
2013 could be the year Gerster decides to run for the MSRXSS championship if things work out."It's really too early to commit to chasing the championship. But, we can if we choose to. Last year we didn't go to the opener in Florida. This year we did. Dick and Debra Meyers, my car owners, run this deal out of their own pockets. We have one car and one motor. If we have any setbacks along the way, it might be tough to do. But that's a fact of life. Most of the championship contenders in Must See have multiple cars and engines. We do have help from Landrum Springs, Gaerte Engines, and RAM Engineering which helps. We're not worried about points, but it shows that you're overall performance is good if you win a championship".
The car that Gerster utilizes is arguably the oldest car on the MSRXSS circuit and is full of history. The car is a twenty-two year car that was originally built by Hoffman Auto Racing to compete in the USAC pavement events. The car was driven to several USAC victories by Steve Butler among others. Car owner Dick Meyers is extremely proud of the car and will tell anyone who will listen that the car belongs in a museum when its career is complete.
As the Xtreme Speed Challenge near, Gerster likes his chances for a winged sprint car victory at the legendary high-banked facility." I feel like we've got as good a shot as anyone. The competition is so deep in Must See Racing and winning is not easy. There is gonna be a lot of fast cars there too. But, I like our chances" concluded Gerster.
KITE RETURNS TO ROOTS FOR 2013 SEASON
Former IZOD INDYCAR Series regular Jimmy Kite will return to his sprint car roots as he competes with the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series (MSRXSS) full-time in 2013.
Winged asphalt sprint car racing isn't new to Kite. Kite began his open wheel racing career running AWOL, TBARA, and USCS winged sprint car events in the southeast while living in Stockbridge, GA. The thirty-seven year-old Kite, who now calls Speedway, IN home, stepped away briefly from sprint car racing to compete in the IZOD INDYCAR Series from 1997-2003. Kite has five career Indy 500 starts on his resume.
Kite will be aboard the Mike Blake owned Dynamite Chassis with sponsorship from NT Supply and Kercher engines."I've known Mike (Blake) for a long time" explained Kite."Blake gave me an opportunity to run this year for him. We plan on running the whole Must See deal although we don't have sponsorship for the whole season. Our plan is for the whole season, but really, its a race to race situation without full sponsorship".
Kite has been away from sprint car racing the last several years, but has followed it closely."When Must See Racing first started, I knew I wanted to run in the series at some point. I like running asphalt sprint cars and I like all the tracks the series goes to. It's gonna be a fun year running the Must See Racing schedule for Mike Blake".
The Xtreme Speed Challenge at Winchester Speedway May 19 is the next event Kite will put his focus on."I love running Winchester. It's a lot like Salem where I won a midget race at once. I've run a midget at Winchester a couple of times too. The thing about Winchester is that when you're going fast there, your doing good. I like the big fast tracks. Driving for a guy like Blake should make it easier for me as far as getting the car good. He's won there before".
Kite may have the most laps this season of any driver entered in the upcoming Xtreme Speed Challenge. Kite is a driving instructor for the Richard Petty Driving Experience."I go all over the country for them. We do several of the tracks on the NASCAR schedule. I gave them the Must See Racing schedule and told them I cant work these weekends because I'll be racing" laughed Kite.
Kite could possibly be a sleeper to win the Xtreme Speed Challenge. Kites does have a lot of experience going fast at big tracks with down force in play. Don't be surprised if Kite rolls into victory lane in Mike Blake's famous "Orange Pumpkin" at some point in 2013.
