POPULAR CARYER TO BE HONORED WITH MEMORIAL RACE AUGUST 14
August 3, 2021 – Elyria, Ohio – We are less than two weeks away from the second annual Xtreme Speed Classic at Lorain County Raceway Park. The two-day open wheel racing extravaganza will feature the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro, Midwest Supermodified Series, and Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights Series.
The action will kick off Friday August 13 with qualifying, heat races, Fast Car Dash, and twin 20-lap qualifiers for the MSR 410 sprint cars. The MSR Midwest Lights will also be in action with a complete program of racing action. The following night the MSR 410’s will return for a B-main and their 30-lap feature event as well as a complete program for the MSS Supermodifieds.
The Saturday night August 14 event is being billed as ‘The Jerry Caryer Memorial’. Caryer was a long time MSR competitor who called Ney, Ohio home. The former dirt racer/converted pavement racer was a popular driver who passed away one year ago. Caryer passed away unexpectedly on the morning of last year’s Xtreme Speed Classic. Caryer’s car had been loaded up with intentions of competing in that evening’s event one year ago.
Caryer, who was 62 at the time of his death, was an accomplished racer who began his racing career on dirt in 1975. He captured his first sprint car win in 1987. He also raced street stocks and late models before making the switch to pavement sprint cars to close to his career. He also captured sprint car feature victories with HOSS and AVSS. It is only fitting that Caryer’s memorial race will take place in his home state of Ohio.
General admission tickets are $18 for Friday and $20 for Saturday. The Modifieds and Renegades will also be in action both days.
